Sep '09 Dr. James Green, Former LRC Director, Contributes Historical Background for President Obama's Speech to the AFL-CIO President Obama delivered a moving and inspirational address to the AFL-CIO National Convention on September 15th, 2009. The President's Speech concluded with a citation of labor history as it played out in a small Penssylvania townnamed Alquippa. When Whitehouse Speechwriters required academic insight, they contact Dr. James Green. The LRC would like to congratulate Dr. Green on this prestigous recognition of his accomplishments, and thank him for his ongoing contributions to labor. May '09 Dr. James Green, former LRC Director, Receives the Sidney Hillman Foundation 2009 Sol Stein Award for Labor History: The 2009 Hillman Prize winners, including Dr. James Green were lauded at an event on May 27 in New York City. The Hillman Prizes are given for the best book, magazine, newspaper, documentary photography, broadcasting, and blog. This is one of the most prestigious prizes given to work that fosters social and economic justice.
April '09 LRC Students Receive The GBLC Scholarship April 1, 2009 - The Greater Boston Labor Council awarded three scholarships to Labor Resource Center students. The scholarships were presented at an annual dinner held by the Greater Boston Labor Council. Pat Sullivan of the GCIU, Steven Sullivan of the GCIU, and David Eastmond of Ironworkers Local 7 were the 2009 recipients. GCIU is the Graphic Communications Conference of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters. Congratulations to these LRC students for their oustanding academic achievments!

April '08 "Building Trades Apprentice Training in Massachusetts" Study Released by LRC -- Press conference April 14, 2008 10 am, Healey Library, 11th floor, UMass Boston The LRC and The Construction Instititue held a press conference to announce the release of the LRC's latest report in its Future of Work Paper Series. The report, authored by Anneta Argyres and Susan Moir, analyzes enrollment and completion data about union and non-union building trade apprenticeship programs in Masschusetts, from 1997-2007. March '08 Popular Education for Labor Educators March 17-21, 2008 9 am - 5 pm, Healey Library, 11th floor, UMass Boston Tess Ewing and Anneta Argyres taught this 1-week intensive course, which was open to both students and the public.
