April '08 "Building Trades Apprentice Training in Massachusetts" Study Released by LRC -- Press conference April 14, 2008 10 am, Healey Library, 11th floor, UMass Boston The LRC and The Construction Instititue held a press conference to announce the release of the LRC's latest report in its Future of Work Paper Series. The report, authored by Anneta Argyres and Susan Moir, analyzes enrollment and completion data about union and non-union building trade apprenticeship programs in Masschusetts, from 1997-2007. June '07 Voices of Iraqi Workers Solidarity Tour Thursday, June 14, 2007 6:00 - 7:30 pm, Wheatley Student Lounge, 4th floor, UMass Boston The LRC was proud to co-hosted this event which featured Faleh Abood Umara, the General Secretary of the Southern Oil Company Union of the Iraq Federation fo Oil Workers, and Hashmeya Muhsin Hussein, President of the Electrical Utility Workers Union, and first woman to lead an Iraqi national union. July '06 LRC Announces Future of Work Paper Series Click here to read the Future of Work paper on paid family and medical leave in MA June '06 The Labor Studies Program graduating class of 2006 On June 2, 2006, eight CPCS students received their Bachelor of Arts degrees from the Labor Studies Program. Congratulations to: Bill Bumpus, Judith Coughlin, Alice Kessler, Tom McIntyre, Steve Melia, State Representative Jeffrey Sanchez, Christy Tarantino, and Todd Williamson April '06 Nancy Mills Speaks at LRC's Future of Work Symposium In April, Nancy Mills, Executive Director of the AFL-CIO Working for America Institute, was the keynote speaker at a symposium hosted by the LRC titled, The Future of Work: The Labor Movement's Role in Workforce Development. February '06 UMass Boston Labor Resource Center Expands The LRC welcomed two new staff – Anneta Argyres and Wally Soper. Anneta joined the LRC as the Program Manager for Research and is developing the LRC's Future of Work on-line research center. Wally works on outreach and recruitment for the Labor Studies program, and will be assisting the Alumn's Network and other special projects. Read more about both of them on the Faculty/ Staff page
