Shannon McCue (former VISTA Volunteer, current CMT student, and work study student for Faculty Support) has just been awarded The Gopen fellowship through the Institute for Community Inclusion. The Institute for Community Inclusion supports the rights of children and adults with disabilities to participate in all aspects of the community. The Gopen Fellowship offers an educational and supportive environment designed for an individual who has extensive volunteer advocacy experience to start working in the professional disability advocacy field. As fellows develop their work plan, choose their project design, and research and create their final product, they are mentored by ICI and MDDC staff to develop the skills they need, understand how the system works, and learn how they can create change. Starting on January 1st, Shannon will be researching access to adaptive computer technology in community centers throughout Massachusetts, and how these centers who provide these services, can be beneficial to people with disabilities wanting to gain access to adaptive technology.
