Possibilities
at CPCS: Field-Based Learning
Field-Based
Learning occurs when students participate in
an Internship (or its equivalent) with a community-based
agency or organization. Each semester, a number of instructional
activities are offered which involve working in the field with
an agency or a community group, and reflecting on the experience.
These activities offer students challenges that differ from classroom
instructional activities and from most independent learning. They
involve experiential learning in a setting that directly supports
a segment of the community. They also offer students an opportunity
to go into the field and try on a particular professional role
in public or community service.
Several
opportunities for Field-Based Learning activities are listed in
each semester's Instructional
Activities Book. The Community
Connection and the Competency
Connection offices also maintain lists of agencies and organizations
that are seeking interns. Staff in these offices can help you
find an internship that is suited to your learning goals.
