Taylor
Center Rules
All users of the Taylor Center must agree to abide by all the terms
herein. Infractions will result in suspension of privileges. Egregious
violators will be reported to the campus police.
General
The Taylor Center, in accordance with approved policy, is designed
to serve a variety of functions within CPCS. The College invites
other constituencies from across the campus and the surrounding
community to make use of the Center in ways appropriate to its mission
on a time available basis. Proirity will always be given to CPCS
students.
Conduct
Users
of the Taylor Center are expected to behave in a professional manner.
Acceptable conduct shall include, but is not limited to, the following:
- The Taylor
Center should be used for academic purposes only. Other uses,
such as personal communications (via email, web forums, etc.),
are permitted on a time available basis.
- No food or
drink is allowed at any time anywhere within the Taylor Center.
- All users
will work quietly and be respectful of other users. No cell phones,
beepers, or audio devices are allowed unless they operate
silently. Students working collaboratively may share a single
computer and converse quietly. Personal conversations should be
held outside
the Center.
- Users shall
be neat and polite while in the Taylor Center and clean up after
themselves when leaving. Do not "spread out"
by leaving books, coats, backpacks, etc., anywhere that would
interfere with another user.
- Leave the
area better than you found it!
- Be sure to
label all disks and CDs and take them with you when you leave.
- Children
are not allowed in the Taylor Center.
Software
A large selection of software is available for use by approved users.
Under no circumstances shall a user add, remove, reconfigure, or
in any way alter any software on computers in the Taylor Center.
Software available for use includes:
- Microsoft
Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Internet
Explorer and Netscape Communicator
- Inspiration
(outlining and brainstorming)
- MaxQDA (Windows)
- Macromedia
Studio: DreamWeaver, Flash, Freehand (Mac)
- Photoshop
Elements (Mac)
- iMovie and
iDVD (Mac)
Hardware
Hardware devices in the Taylor Center are property of the College
of Public and Community Service and it is a violation of the law
to remove any device from the Taylor Center without prior written
permission from CPCS administration.
This includes, but is not limited to, keyboards, computer mice,
staplers, floppy disk drives, Zip drives, computers, computer monitors,
cables, networking equipment, audiovisual equipmant, and whiteboard
equipment (such as markers).
Printing
In the digital age, it is easier than ever to produce printed documents,
and this has a tremendous impact on the environment and the College's
budget.
Users are asked to limit printing only to essential documents, and
in no case shall a user print more than oine copy of any document.
Copiers are available in the copy center on the first floor.
Users are asked to take advantage of a number of options for conserving
paper, such as:
- Two-sided
printing and side by side printing of multiple pages per sheet
- Sending and
receiving documents (e.g. papers) electronically
- Using the
"Print Preview" feature to prevent printing of blank
or gnarly blank pages
- Saving web
pages and PDFs to disk for offline reading rather than printing.
