Careers
The
Community Studies major will provide excellent preparation for
working in communities. This is a useful skill for non-degreed
employees of community-based organizations as well as agencies
and corporations that work at the community level, such as community
development corporations, youth programs, and even private sector
firms that need workers experienced in community-based work.
The
combined majors offer an even more focused set of knowledge and
skills. Community Studies and Planning will provide a strong foundation
for work in city and town planning departments and agencies, in
community development corporations, in the planning and development
areas of human service agencies and in community based organizations.
Similarly, those majoring in Community Studies and Human Service
Delivery will be strong assets to community based service organizations
and other human service agencies that work at the community level.
Community organizing is at the core of the Community Studies and
Organizing major, which prepares students for work organizing
contexts that include community advocacy organizations, unions,
community development corporations, organizations focused on political
empowerment.
