Quantitative Reasoning (QR): Level Two

As students learn to develop a critical consciousness, they also must recognize that people are not only being influenced by verbal and written arguments, but also by numbers. Charts and graphs, and statistical data can be misleading. CPCS incorporates quantitative reasoning (QR) to illustrate how public and community issues are addressed when the focus is on issues in which we really need to do the math in order to better understand the information and the arguments, and in order to be able to question the decisions that were involved in choosing which numbers to use and which calculations to perform. When students tackle the Quantitative Reasoning Competency, they will be able to use their quantitative skills to reason about various public and community issues addressed in other competencies in our curriculum. Click here to see an example of how we can analyze numbers.
