Based on the workplan Felicia Sullivan and I created at the start of the year, here is what I was supposed to accomplish and here is waht I actually
accomplished. between September 2000 and septemeber 2001.
Assist in the setup and implementation of (6) Consortium community
technology centers
- Assisted in the setup of (9) computer labs.
- Provided support for an additional (3) labs already setup
Implement and direct a recruitment process to
attract candidates to 5 VISTA positions and 5 P/T positions to Consortium
partner organizations
- Created a hiring process.
- Managed email and phone contacts with (72) applicants
- Interviewed (51) applicants.
- Filled all 10 positions.
- Retained (8) of (10) hires.
- All retained hires have performed well.
Conduct outreach to Umass - Lowell and Middlesex Community College to build
student relations & recruit volunteers
Secured use of 400 sq lab with light, HVAC, electricity, furniture, fast
network connections and Internet legal IP numbers for free.
Recruited (1) solid volunteer
Success was not complete because:
- I spent a lot more time doing technical stuff than I had planned and
did not follow up on several significant opportunities like getting placing
work study students from Middlesex
- Getting sites to respond to volunteers in a timely manner was difficult
at times.
- Students at UML and Middlesex tend to spend their leasure time working
to pay rent and tuition bills
Work with Community Tech Coordinator to implement a WAN
which initially connect 4 partner sites.
This goal was abandoned after some preliminary exploration.
The benefits of the WAN did not justify the time required to
create it.
Run a 6 month series of MCSE study courses
- Ran (4) month MCSE class
- (4) of (9) students passed Microsoft exam 70-210 and are now Microsoft certified professionals.
- (2) Students are repeating the class.
Additional positive outcomes
- Made weekly support visits to (7) sites for 6 months
- Lead team of volunteers to create nice 367 link web site.
- Served on committee that defined core goals of consortium.
