We just got a grant from Weyerhauser to support our Children's Learning Center. It's only for $5000, but that is quite a bit of money for this organization. I wrote this grant from the perspective of a child. It described what the Learning Center could do for a child, and how many children could be sponsored by $5000. Here is an excerpt describing one of my favorite children here at La Casa Hogar.
My name is Alejandro. I just turned 3 years old, but started coming to La Casa Hogar when I was 18 months old. I've learned how to count and identify colors and shapes here. Everyday I come in, hang my coat, and say "Buenos Dias, Enedina" to my teacher. My parents moved to the United States 4 years ago, and I’m learning both English and Spanish. My parents both ask me about school and teach me new songs because I love to sing. I love going to La Casa Hogar because I get to play with my friends and do fun activities.
It was fun to write in such a simple style. It contrasted greatly with the technical jargon usually found in grants, and it worked!
