Priority Area Coordinators

CTC VISTA Project basics for 2005-06 (www.cpcs.umb.edu/vista/projectbasics.htm) provide that all organizations applying to the project develop a workplan that has at least one goal that addresses one of the project's four priority areas and that the project will develop resources in these areas.

The four areas are:

1. Community networking, including wireless.
2. Community organizing and development, using emerging technology organizing tools.
3. Technology support to other nonprofit organizations.
4. Programs for at-risk youth, with a particular emphasis on digital media skills acquisition.

For more detailed descriptions of the priority areas as well as background to their development, see the project basics.

Coordinators for each of these priority areas will provide support to priority area projects in their field and contribute to the development of training resources and curriculum materials. A consultant contract, reviewable before mid-year, will be provided for undertaking the following responsibilities:

* Priority Area Coordinators will establish and moderate a discussion list, blog, or other group interaction with project VISTAs and Supervisors and project staff, and provide individual and group support and advice for the implementation of area workplan objectives.

* Priority area coordinators will contribute substantively to the development of training modules and curriculum resources in their area of expertise and assist the curriculum developer with the preparation of curriculum materials to be disseminated.

* Coordinators will assist the College of Public and Community Service in its student recruitment efforts by identifying VISTAs and other area personnel who might benefit from the college's certificate and degree programs in Community Media and Technology.

* Coordinators will help organize a priority area presentation for two issues of the Community Technology Review.

* Coordinators will help organize two conference proposals over the course of the year, though attendance is not necessarily required. One of these can be for the CTCNet annual conference in June '06.

Qualifications: Coordinators should have some good community technology expertise and experience in their project area(s), an ability to moderate/oversee a conversation, provide support, and write. Academic and curriculum development abilities and interests a plus.
