Opening Day

Wow. I came back home some hours ago from having dinner with a few of the Boston-area VISTAs at Grendel's Den in Harvard Square. I had planned to just sit down and churn out a quick, concise entry, but I got sucked into trying to solve several of the geeky problems I couldn't fix earlier in the work week. And I sort of missed two days of work this week including today. Anyhow, clickety click below for more of the goodz.

This morning was the Massachusetts AmeriCorps Opening Day ceremonies. Basically it was a big rally for all of the Massachusetts AmeriCorps-related organizations. There were some pseudo celebrities there, like Lisa Hughes from CBS Channel 4, and some dude from Governor Romney's office. I've gotta say -- and this may qualify as an inapporpriate use of the weblog, and certainly qualifies as an imprudent use of the weblog -- LH seemed like an airhead kind of. Umm, so yours truly, one of your two fabulous VISTA Leaders, represented all 40 of us and spoke for about 30 seconds in front of a throng of people (several hundred). Pics were taken by Marie and are on my camera, but for uninteresting technical reasons can't be posted (yet). :-( Everyone will be happy to know that my two chief objectives were met in the delivery of the 3 sentence speech: do not embarrass the Project, and do not embarrass myself. And lemme tell ya, it was a close call!

So there were speeches from 10 to 11:30, then we grabbed lunch, and then people went off in different directions to participate in various sundry afternoon service activities until 4. Pete and Marie went to a zoo, for example, and raked leaves. Wow. Then around 5pm we met at Harvard Square to have dinner. Lauren , though ill, was generous enough to grace us with her presence. Umm, there are a couple pictures of that debauchery, also posted on the weblog.

Afterwards Lauren and I hung out for a little bit, which was nice. :-) Others in attendance included Michelle , David , Alli , and Dan .

Uhh, it's really late, so I'm going to go to bed shortly. Tomorrow is the Boston Vegetarian Food Festival and several VISTAs will be in attendance. And I'm still not done fixing all of the things I'd wanted to fix tonight! Anyhow, gotta roll. Ciao for now.
